Right Where I Found It: Ramba Quest

What you get

Remembrance of Past — a blessing granting +50% pickpocketing during the day — plus sneak training from the questgiver. If you are building any kind of thief, this is the quest to do (builds).

Finding Ramba

She is in Magdal Rest but she has no fixed home and wanders constantly. Places she turns up:

  • The right side of town
  • Inside a couple of the buildings there
  • Very often on the beach

Her confession explains the quest:

“Yes, I can’t help it. It’s in my blood. My father, and his father’s father, and come to think of it, my mother and grandmother are all thieves. I have beaten my instincts and conquered my desires, but I still have what I stole. Could you find it in your heart to return these?”

Her name appears as both Ramba and Remba across sources; her true name is given in-game as Nakanak. NerveLabs has published no cast list, so the spelling is unconfirmed.

Do this first: favourite the three items

Practical advice from the walkthrough, and it will save you real frustration. The inventory in this game is a mess to search. Open your inventory and mark the three quest items as favourites before you set out.

The three targets

You return each item by pickpocketing it into the owner’s pocket, which means stealth mode and the same skill checks as ordinary theft (lockpicking covers the neighbouring skill).

ItemOwnerWhere
BookA woman you have likely already metThe very first house
Lucky coinA lizardBehind the next house along
RingA guardianBehind the tavern, often upstairs on the second floor

The lizard is the difficult one. He is almost always watching. The trick: enter stealth mode, which prompts him to move, and that gives you the window to get behind him.

The guardian wanders. If he is not behind the tavern, check the second floor of the nearby building.

Note the item filter does not work inside the pickpocket interface — another reason to favourite everything first.

The second half: the real Ramba

Return to her — which is its own challenge, since she is still wandering. The walkthrough offers a useful diagnostic: if you have checked every home and every corner of town and cannot find her, that is a bug, not your failure.

She then reveals the actual situation:

“You’d make a fine thief if you weren’t such a kind soul. I’ve got nothing else to my name, but I can train you how to sneak like my family taught me. My true name is Nakanak. I stole this pearl from Rambo, the real Rambo. It contains her identity, thoughts, dreams, everything up to the point I took them from her. And I want you to give it back.”

So the woman you have been helping is not Ramba. You now have a pearl containing a stolen identity.

Travelling to the Tsaffon ruins

The real Ramba is at the ruins of Tsaffon, east of the starting town. This trip is genuinely dangerous at low level — the guide warns explicitly that at levels one to three you should be careful.

The safe route is to swim. Follow the shoreline east rather than going overland. The landing point is recognisable by two landmarks close together; there are also powerful skeletons in the area that drop very good gear if you can handle them.

From the shore, find the road and follow it north until you reach the cat.

The choice

She does not want the pearl back:

“Why would I want this? But I like who I am now.”

You have two routes: keep trying to persuade her, or pickpocket the pearl into her inventory — the quest updates either way. Then talk to her:

“What just happened? This I’m It’s all coming back to me. I remember my name. My past. It is a happy feeling. I do not regret knowing. I last remember arriving on this island sometime ago before it all went dark. Do you know what happened?”

Now you choose again: tell her the truth about her sister, or conceal it. Telling the truth produces the fuller resolution:

“My sister why would she do that? I suppose I could have had a guess. She was jealous of the life I led, my success, my relationships, my everything, really. But I forgive her. I understand now why she didn’t do this herself. I couldn’t have brought myself to fix my mistakes. Take this blessing. I have no need of it.”

That is Remembrance of Past. See blessings for how it fits with the game’s other permanent effects — and note the daytime condition on it.

Because both halves of this quest are choices with real outcomes, this is a clean illustration of how the Amphitheater records what you did rather than whether you “won.”
